Local and sustainably produced produce is important to everyone, especially for PRO*ACT and its network of distributors. That’s why we launched Greener Fields Together in 2011, the food industry’s first comprehensive, national, seed-to-fork sustainability program.
Greener Fields Together engages every link in our fresh food supply chain – from farmer to distributor to customer – to work toward more conscious production and consumption. Through resource sharing and a focus on continuous improvement, the initiative provides a level of assurance that produce sourced and delivered through our network has been grown, harvested and handled using sustainable practices.
How Greener Fields Together Delivers
Greener Fields Together quantifies sustainability efforts with every partner, facilitates transparency and continuous improvement at every link and, ultimately, creates a future for conscious production and consumption. Here’s how we do it:
- Large national farms and processors are engaged in making continuous sustainability improvements to their growing, harvest and post-harvest activities.
- Local farms are supported with financial and educational resources to nurture greater availability of locally grown produce.
- Distributor partners are monitored for ongoing, measurable sustainability improvements. (i.e. purchasing of local produce; food safety; conservation of resources, etc.).
- Hospitality and retail operators who commit to the Greener Fields Together supply chain and embrace sustainability in their own operations can proudly display the Greener Fields Together logo for patrons to see.
Advancing Sustainability, From Seed to Fork
Sustainable produce is good for mother earth and for our bodies. We believe that delivering safe, local, sustainable foods is the right thing to do. So we’re doing it … through Greener Fields Together.
