D’Arrigo | Broccoli Rabe

Broccoli Rabe was a vegetable the D’Arrigo Family grew up eating in Messina, Sicily and the Mediterranean flavors are delicious, nutritious and reminiscent of home. When the D’Arrigo family first started growing produce in San Jose, CA they noticed wild mustard greens growing on the side of the hill (which they consumed in Sicily) and decided to pack them under the name ‘Tender Greens’. The response from customers was positive, therefore, the family contracted a PhD scientist to work on an exclusive proprietary seed and they decided to change the name from Tender Greens to Broccoli Rabe.

With tender leaves, stems and crisp florets, this bold vegetable is not only extremely robust, but also a powerful superfood. It goes by many names other than Broccoli Rabe including rapini, broccoli di rape, broccoletti, and broccoli raab. A member of the Mustard family, Broccoli Rabe is a cruciferous vegetable that is more closely related to the turnip than broccoli. Edible from top to bottom, Broccoli Rabe is a versatile vegetable that can be blanched, pureed, sautéed, grilled or steamed in a variety of cuisines. In addition to being one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, it’s a top choice among leading chefs for its unique and sharp flavor.

One of the most nutrient-dense vegetables on the planet, Broccoli Rabe is a superfood that’s loaded with antioxidants and minerals that keep your body strong and keep you feeling good. It helps improve digestion, protects your eyesight, reduces the risk of heart disease, strengthens bones and detoxes. It also contains nutrients that you might not expect to get from a vegetable, including protein and calcium.

They now grow, pack and ship Andy Boy Broccoli Rabe™ year round and we produce conventional and organic half packs (10 count), full packs (20 count) and a conventional value added 11oz bag (chopped and triple washed).
