PRO*ACT’s very own Kurt Brown is participating in this year’s Tour de Fresh (http://www.tourdefresh.com/), presented by The California Giant Foundation. It is the first-of-its-kind, collaborative event that unites the most significant brands and influencers in the fresh produce industry, including PRO*ACT, for a cycling event that raises funds to benefit the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools campaign. Tour de Fresh is a 3-day cycling ride through the gorgeous Northern California scenery, starting in Napa Valley on July 26th and culminating in Monterey on July 28th to kick off the 2016 Produce Marketing Foodservice Conference.
Making a difference in children’s life’s by giving them the tools they need to eat healthy each and every day is what Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools is about.
He is also fundraising for the event, hoping to raise at least $3,100 in donations, the amount necessary to purchase one salad bar. Schools from across the country applied to be part of this program, and from that list, Kurt chose the Steel Valley School District near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Being able to select Steel Valley was a nice bonus for Kurt, being a Penn State Alumni, feels a connection with this region. This event is very important to Kurt, because it combines several things he is passionate about. Kurt has been a lifelong cyclist, getting his first 10 speed in high school and has been hooked ever since. He strives to promote a healthy lifestyle aided by proper nutrition and exercise. Being an ambassador for PRO*ACT and the produce industry, especially to those from other walks of life that have no idea what it takes to put produce on the grocery store shelf or plate in a restaurant. And most importantly, helping to provide the next generation, the opportunity to start the most important development years of their life with healthy nutrition.
Throughout the event, his progress will be posted on the PRO*ACT social media platforms…so make sure you follow his adventures. You can also follow the progress on the Tour de Fresh website and social platforms.
