Costa Fruit & Produce Recognized as Environmental Leader

Costa Fruit and Produce of Charlestown, MA (Costa) has been recognized as an environmental leader by the Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM), it was announced today. ELM invites a small number of corporate leaders into its ELM Corporate Council to serve as environmental role models for their industry, and it has selected Costa to join the Council in 2016.

ELM is the oldest environmental advocacy organization in the Commonwealth, focused on protecting our natural habitat and combating climate change.

“Costa Fruit & Produce” has been a long term environmental leader in the wholesale food distribution industry.” said George Bachrach, ELM President. “They initiated the ‘Greener Fields Together’ program designed to increase sustainability for the food industry from seed to fork.”

Costa provides foodservices to an array of restaurants, hotels, universities and schools throughout New England. They have been champions of “Farm to School” programs, Farmers markets and the Greater Boston Food Bank. They have been an industry leader on energy efficiency, refrigeration, fleet upgrades and waste reduction. In 2008 they were the recipient of Boston’s “Green Business Award”.

ELM is pleased to both recognize and join forces with Costa as a member of the ELM Corporate Council and work together to advance sustainability practices and policies in New England.
